The
2002 MTV Video Music Awards happened to fall on Michael
Jackson’s 44th birthday. During the show, Britney
Spears invited Michael Jackson on stage to give him a birthday
present. A long time fan of Michael’s, Britney introduced
him as the “artist of the millennium”. Michael
mistakenly thought she was saying he WON artist of the millennium.
He even gave a little acceptance speech! An MTV spokesperson
later explained, “There is no such award as the Artist
of the Millennium. I think some wires got crossed.”
